"Expired useful life" field for assets

Hello,

A doubt,  is  correct that the Expired useful life  in the master asset continue after the end of the useful life?, for example,

I have an asset : Useful life      =  4 years

Depreciation calculation start     = 01.10.2010

Depreciation calculation finalized = 01.09.2014

In the field Expired Useful Life I have = 5 years and 3 months (I understand is calculated at decembre 2015)

is it part of the standard that SAP extends the useful life of the asset until 5 years and 3 months?  or  Can I do some configuration in SAP to stop calculating Expired useful life ?
